Schaefer v. Sparling, Multnomah County Case No. 19CV08727
Defendant Sparling ran a stop sign in SE Portland and crashed into Plaintiff Schaefer. The crash sent Schaefer careening into a pole. Schaefer claimed that the crash caused him to tear his rotator cuff and labrum in his shoulder, requiring surgical repair. He also claimed that the crash caused him to rupture discs in his neck that cannot be repaired. He sought damages including $53,005 for past medical expenses, $50,000 for future medical expenses and $750,000 for non-economic damages.
Defendant Sparling initially denied liability but amended his answer to admit liability before trial. He contested the cause and extent of Schaefer’s damages.
